5 Ways Recruiters Can Attract Candidates with the Facebook

17 April 2012

Many of you may not be aware that at Logic Melon, we have been developing a suite of tools to enable our clients to harness the power of social media when recruiting.

Last week, Facebook opened Timeline to all business Pages, providing recruiting firms with an array of new opportunities to promote themselves and turn visitors into fans and ultimately, fans into candidates.

So what do we at Logic Melon suggest you do first? Here are our top 5 tips:

1 - Upload a Creative Cover Photo

Your cover photo and profile picture should be presented in a creative way which represents your company well. While you should be as innovative as possible, you must remember that Facebook does not allow banners to contain sales information. Make sure you use an image with high resolution.

2 - Tell Your Company Story with Milestones

Go back in time and tell your 'likers' when your company launched important products or moved offices and include interesting visual images to match. By adding these 'milestones' to your Page, you can create a relatable story and introduce passive candidates to company culture. If it's a milestone current employees are passionate about, encourage them to 'like' and share it with their networks.

3 - Pin Important Announcements

Because you can't put a call to action in your cover photo, Facebook will now let companies 'pin' announcements to the top of their Timeline for up to 7 days. By using this feature, you can promote new recruiting campaigns or individual hard-to-fill positions. Use this feature even if the page is not just for recruiting as it will drive traffic to your careers page.

4 - Show Off Your Jobs App

Timeline will make important apps more visible by assigning thumbnail photos and placing them more prominently at the top of your Page. Not only does this work to call attention to your open positions, but also for your own custom app. Take advantage of this layout update with flashy and informative thumbnails. Timeline's layout allows for only four apps to be featured at the top, so make sure your careers tab is in one of these prime spots.

5. Respond to Customers and Candidates

Timeline also brings with it the ability to respond directly to messages from potential candidates to your Page. Part of ensuring a good candidate experience is to respond to these questions immediately - this is a great engagement opportunity so make sure you use it!
